Brent did not build to code, follow plans or complete my build after I paid him. I was left with an unfinished barndominium that would not have survived the winter. I had to pull out a second mortgage to pay another contractor, to fix all the damages in the pictures attached, to get it to pass inspection so I wouldn’t lose everything over the winter. I did win a lawsuit against Brent, but unfortunately it wasn’t enough to cover all the costs. Feel free to reach out for further info.
This barndominium was filmed for the TV show Building Off The Grid. Brent did not show up for the final filming because he left the job after I paid him $150,000 to hire more people to finish. He took that money and left the job site never to return!!!! If I was a contractor that built a home on an international TV show, I would be promoting that. Why is he NOT? Now you know why.

Write oneWhere to start? I just received an "intent to file lien" from Builders First Source as they have not been paid (I paid Cascade Custom Construction (CCC) promptly upon completion of work). Prior to this, and separately, the painter called me to let me know he would be filing a lien as CCC owed him money.
At the time Brent, the owner of CCC, described the issue with the painter as a disagreement in hours worked. Given the Builders First Source I assume the problem lies with CCC.
Ok, so let's dive into my longstanding issue with CCC. In spring 2025 I signed a contract with them and gave them a significant deposit toward completion of a barn. The contract had some description of the size and construction of the building but details were not incliuded (such as a porch, choice of siding, and the fact that I would supply/install roof doors). These items were discussed through verbal communication with the sales/project manager. Additionally, I was told it was a small job that they would fit in between larger projects. In a couple of months the building would be up.
Well the project manager left, then the next project manager assigned left. Then Brent, the owner, called me and said he would let me out of the contract because there is no way they could do it for the price quoted (Brent signed the contract months earlier).
In a meeting with Brent it was obvious he didn't know the details. I told him I specifically what my agreement was with his sales/project manager folks. He said they would proceed with the understanding that I address the roof and doors.
It became obvious that they had massive communication failures within their organization. As months ensued it became clear that Brent failed communication not only within his organization, but with me as well. Failed promises and occasional return of phone calls left me wondering when they would complete the job.
My hard deadline was winter to address housing for our animals. Brent assured me there was a lot of time before winter. As time passed I ended up creating temporary housing in early november. In hind site this was needed because they didn't start construction before spring 2026!
Avoid these folks. There are more reasons then I have listed, but the liens and the complete failure in communication within and outside their company are the primary drivers.
were not in the contract.
I don't have a reason to tell someone NOT to use Cascade Custom Construction, but my experience was subpar.
I had been in communication with a member of their team about building on a lot. I was explicit about my budget and situation and I was assured that their minimum build cost was well below (actually a third of my budget), leaving me room to buy property.
When we set up a meeting to discuss construction plans, the builder told me their minimum build cost was much higher. Apparently there is some miscommunication or misunderstanding within their company.
They unnecessarily wasted my time. They did apologize and I forgive them. The builder said he would talk to the marketing guy, so hopefully this issue is resolved. However, I want others to know to make sure that they are getting accurate information.
We have had many great times in our Barn built by Brent and his team. We have enjoyed the space for regular harvesting over the past three years as well as hosting many community and family gatherings. During the build, Brent was available to answer questions as well as take care of any concerns that came about. I continue to feel comfortable reaching out to Brent should I need.
Cascade Custom Construction built us a beautiful 40x60 shop. It turned out better than we hoped. He helped bring our vision to life. The attention to detail was spot on, the job site was left clean and communication on job progress was exceptional. He was available to answer the million questions we had during the process. He made sure shop matched our home perfectly. We couldn't be happier.
