We had my son’s birthday party at Wheeler Farm, and unfortunately, the party house was a major disappointment and, in my opinion, not worth the money.

We had never been to the party house before, and I paid for it without being able to see it in person. I later asked if we could tour it beforehand, but was told they don’t allow tours because they don’t have the staff. I find that pretty questionable when you’re paying for a space you’ve never seen. In hindsight, I can understand why they don’t post pictures of the party house online.

The “party house” is essentially a very small shack with one tiny wall-mounted AC unit, which is completely inadequate in the Utah summer heat. It was hot, cramped, and uncomfortable. There also isn’t enough table space for food or presents, or enough seating for everyone.

You are also given only two hours total for the entire party, including setup and cleanup. That is an extremely short amount of time, especially when you have to arrive, decorate, get food and presents organized, have the kids participate in activities, serve cake, open presents, and then clean everything up and be completely out of the space.

The logistics were frustrating as well. They only provide tokens for 10 children, but parents aren’t allowed to ride the attractions for free with their small children. With toddlers, it makes little sense to expect them to participate in rides without a parent. I also had to figure out the logistics of getting all of the kids onto the tractor ride myself because there was very little coordination or assistance.

Another major issue was that everyone seemed to assume we already knew how everything worked and where everything was. Finding the party area and figuring out where we were supposed to go was not intuitive at all. Most of the people I spoke with seemed annoyed when I asked questions rather than being helpful, which made an already stressful situation even more frustrating.

When you really break down what you’re paying for, it felt like $150 for a tractor ride and about 10 minutes of petting a miniature pony, on top of being given a tiny, hot space that wasn’t particularly functional for a birthday party. That feels extremely overpriced for what you actually receive.

Honestly, we would have been much better off not paying for the party house and simply having the party outside under the trees. It would have been cooler, more spacious, and much less stressful for my two-year-old.

Wheeler Farm itself is a fun place for kids, but based on our experience, I would not recommend paying for the party house. If you’re considering booking one, I would strongly recommend getting detailed photos and information about the space beforehand, because you may be very surprised by what you’re actually getting.

I visited Wheeler Farm on a Sunday afternoon in February 2026. The snowy mountains made a very picturesque backdrop on a warm winter day. The barn looked great for an old structure, but I learned it was a replica of the 1898 barn built in 1990 after a fire destroyed the original. Neil Astle designed this one to perfectly match the 1898 farm barn. The building was marked as closed after a boutique earlier in the day, but the grounds were open. Quite a few people enjoyed walking the trails and taking in the scenery. A line of wooden carvings, including an owl and a horse, were fun to look at. The grounds were very well organized, clean, and free of debris. All wires were tucked in tight, making it safe for kids. The winter foliage and greenery were dormant, but the layout was well kept and clearly would look beautiful in the spring and summer bloom. Plaques detailed the local organisms, birds, and plants, while signs identified the structures. Rusty farm equipment sat around the property, and everything was well maintained to ensure it was safe to be around. Signs noted that wagon rides leave on the hour and half hour, with tokens purchased at the activity barn, though they were not running on Sunday. The animals on site included turkeys, horses, cows, peacocks, and ducks in the stream and pond. Benches dotted the nice, wide trails. The grounds were big with a lot of walking area to cover, and I did not see the whole property despite walking for 45 minutes. A few large areas of grass would be great for a picnic. I highly recommend this outdoor area for families or individuals as a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

I absolutely love it here and so do my babes! We love seeing and petting all the animals and going for a train ride! The little creek is so cute and my kids did little stick races in it. Also, LOVE that it’s free! Everything that does cost at the farm is very reasonably priced! And bonus points for such a cute playground too! Looking forward to our next visit to the farm 💕

Wonderful place to walk around, play, tour, sit and relax. Tons of mature trees, and some trunk stumps left behind got to become art. Cool buildings, plenty of restrooms near playground, near blacksmith, at the big barn. We enjoyed seeing the animals do their thing. Smells like a farm, lots of area to the east for roaming. Dogs allowed on leash. Fun play area to the south of the southern parking area. Lots of parking (N and S entrances from 900 E), but it still can fill up!

This is a cool little place in the middle of the hustle and bustle of SLC. Its free to walk around and see the grounds and the animals. It was perfect for my 4 and 6 year olds. They loved doing the scavenger hunt and finding all of the different critters. We also paid the $3 to let them do the wagon rides. They had a blast ans got to get out and burn a little energy. Really cool place.
