ReBuilding Center

The Rebuilding Center is great if you are in need of construction materials: doors, cabinets, flooring, fireplace inserts, countertops, & lumber. They also have drawer knobs & pulls, hinges and lighting fixtures. I'm sure I've forgotten other things they offer but it's all reasonably priced.
Another cool thing about the Rebuilding Center, they offer classes! I believe they are free but you can learn everything from wiring a lamp to building a box garden bed. Super cool place that I highly recommend and always enjoy when I visit.

Today, I went to buy lumber 2x10" and 2x12" . I asked Nick/Nicole to point me to the price list. They took me to a price list. I chose my boards carefully (took an hour and a half struggling by myself with 10-12 feet boards) as the majority of them were cracked, if not all 1-2 feet at their ends. Some were split from one end to another.
Then Peter came to help me - thank you Peter ! And he says, the lf if $3, since is cedar, and not seconds. I get Nicole in to ask her how come I have been shown another price list than what that lumber pile is. Nick says- no, you didn't understand i said this list is for the price of discounted boards. Then I asked they if she took took me to the remote board with cedar prices. They says No, you didn't ask me to!
So Nicole is either not knowledgeable, or not interested in customer service, or both.
I also asked if they can discount the part of the board that is unusable because split and separated. Nope- the price is the price!
I ended up spending twice the price of same lumber, that I found on FB market. I would have left it there, but by the time I messaged back, it sold.
Rebuilding Center is NOT what it used to be! The flavor totally changed. Prices are high...That's why is half empty despite the available space and despite some wonderful helpful old timers that are still around. ( like Rose, like Peter)
Rebuilding is not honoring its mission statement anymore.
I, for one, will never go back.

We have been going to the rebuilding center for years. It's a great place to search for that household item you have been searching for and at a moderate price. They have lots of stuff from large chandeliers to small fixtures, all electrical components to help wire and hang. Cabinets, furniture, antique hardware, tile, windows, doors, sinks, tubs, door trim, flooring, and more and more, so kuch stuff and the cob front door is amazing. Take classes to learn and / or volunteer. This place does it all and don't forget to go out the back door, through the alley I to the drop off location and the large warehouse with lumber and uses tools, always something random to see and buy.
